Thank you Dallas for this lovely story. He was indeed very special. I saw many of his concerts, and it was always pure joy. It must have been a privilege to have been working with such a genius. We will never forget him
I am really sorry to hear this. Shocked to hear that Zakir passed. I’ve been listening so many years to John McLauglin and Zakir Hussain playing together. Zakir was a real genius!
Zakir Hussain was an amazing musician and artist. He will be greatly missed and always honored for his amazing contributions to traditional Indian music and his equally amazing contribution to the fusion of ancient rhythms and modern music. I had the privilege of recording him a couple of times in my Studio - Samurai Sound. Thanks Dallas!
Dear Dallas:,thank you for sharing these memories and tributes to a master Musi a who you were lucky enough to kniwc, learn from, and learn with. May his body test in oeace as his spirit lives on through you and others lucky enough to know, study, and play music with him. HBS
Zakir was as much an ideal as a person. He redefined the role of Tabla and Indian music to allow both to merge with the largest experience of our shared humanity that become front and center in our music. Zakir also demonstrated a reverence for the arts that is seldom expressed as open and primary. Dallas introduced me to Zakir early in our relationship, 40 years ago. Dallas carries with him the same humility and devotion. What pulls us into a kind of sober awakening is that, as our friend, Max Rossmassler said, if anyone was supposed to be immortal, it was Zakir. and Chick Corea! the world has lost an amazing musician, but his music already is embedded in our music and the music of now and forever. I am ever grateful that Zakir lived in our lifetime and we had him as long as we have. Pure Joy and devotion.
